One day I felt like taking a small break from the advanced bells and whistles of ZScript to try something different. That something different, of course, turned out to be DeHackEd, through the more user-friendly frontend of DECOHack. This mod is the end result of that experiment.

Working within the constraints of what MBF21 and DSDHacked have to offer, I made yet another weapons mod, one starring a new main character, the giddy hellhound gal Kyra. She does not like what these demons are up to, as she'd rather have the humans pet her and give her treats, so she's going to defend her would-be pet-and-treat-givers the best way she knows how: With big heckin' guns. This mod, meant for Nugget Doom, has these things to offer so far:

  • Fully replaced weaponry that still keeps the spirit of the vanilla Doom lineup, while amping the oomph factor to eleven (e.g.: you get four barrels on your super shotty and such).
  • A cute dog girl protagonist.
  • Simple but effective visual effects. Cool explosions, sparky particles, ejected casings, the works.
  • Authentically bit-crushed sound effects.

Currently, the weapon and character sprites are, well... Placeholders. I definitely do intend to create bespoke spritework myself, eventually, but for now, what I've got here does the trick. So yeah, expect things to change visually over time.

For the best experience, Nugget is recommended, but the mod is still compatible with a few other popular ports.

Also, I would be remiss not to recommend running this alongside Skelegant's Gorenuggets add-on for an even more extra touch to the impact of the big guns (as well as the literal big guns that this dawg can wield).

  • Cynmusic for the title and intermission tracks, assumed free for non-commercial use.

This looks pretty kickass! I love a good dehacked, low size mod that changes things up a bit. Look forward to playing this!

A complementary monster pack is in the works for this, by the way. It’s not really going to change the vanilla monsters visually, but it will tweak their behaviour, maybe add some unique sounds here and there, and just beef ’em up a bit to better match the action of the weapon mod.

Tried this mod with TheKinsie's doom test wad and....huh, this is actually fucking neat! Also tried it in my usual set-up with Gzdoom and it actually works out a oki "^^

Huh, that’s wild, didn’t expect DSDHacked stuff like this to work out of the box in GZDoom. You’re missing out on the custom HUD, though, but I do plan on also writing a SBARINFO along with DECORATE and GLDEFS for compatibility with it (and also Zandronum, because why not).

edit: I changed my mind, none of that anymore.

I’m sorry!!?? it’s peak!!!??? I instantly loved this mod the moment I saw her mugshotting around in the UI haha.

So this screams Marisa’s style all over it. The powerful satysfying weapons, the unhinged yet cute char design, the very obsessively overkill graphic/ui design and screen gfxs, etc.

I’m really excited to see you working on dehacked mods!
